A Decade of Publishing Excellence in Independent Literature
For Das Narr, one of Switzerland’s most distinctive independent literary magazines, we reimagined its identity and editorial concept in 2014 with the 14th issue—marking the beginning of a collaboration that would shape the publication for the next decade. The concept treats literature and design as equal partners. Each issue features a curated mix of contemporary prose, poetry, essays, and experimental formats. Alongside, a rotating Carte Blanche section offers 12–16 pages to a guest artist, illustrator, or designer, while a newly commissioned typeface by an invited typographer defines the visual language of each edition.
This structure turned every issue into a unique, collectible object—balancing literary content with experimental print design. Annual special editions translated literature into unexpected media: from cookbooks to travel guides and reimagined pulp novels. Over ten years, Das Narr published more than 300 authors and collaborated with an impressive network of visual artists, typographers, and illustrators—including some of the most relevant voices in the contemporary scene.
From 2014 to 2024, we shaped the magazine’s visual language and identity as part of a fully voluntary project, contributing to one of the most progressive literary platforms in the German-speaking world.
