For Das Narr #36, we delve into the theme of exile and its intricate interplay with the idea of exit. Not merely exile, but also the departure from it—exile as an exit, and the exit as exile. The connections between these two concepts are rich and varied, and we find it crucial to break open these terms. We aim to avoid reducing authors who live concretely in Swiss exile to this singular label. Instead, we seek to question exile in its various forms, allowing for stories to emerge beyond the patterns and frames that often accompany the typical use of these words. Through a collection of diverse texts, some translated specifically for this issue, we hope to present a range of perspectives, life stories, and literary visions. The issue features texts from Dilbahar Askari, Chadia Atassi, Sagal Maj Comafai, Lukas Gloor, Gunnar D. Hansson, Dima Albitar Kalaji, Nazli Karabıyıkoğlu, Sára Köhnlein, Wagdy El Komy, Rike Lorenz, Anna Melikova, Halyna Petrosanyak, Shukri Al Rayyan, Elisa Rutschi, Jafar Sael, Suzan Samancı, Frederike Schäfer, Ruth Schweikert, Marc Späni, Marina Skalova, Georgia Strati, Miriam Tag, Kameliya Taneva, Sreten Ugričić, Elisabeth Wandeler-Deck, and Saskia Winkelmann.
