Strauhof – Carl Seelig

We designed the communication and exhibition design for “Carl Seelig – Drei Briefwechsel” at the Strauhof Zürich, a unique literary museum situated in a historic baroque townhouse in the heart of Zürich’s old town. The Strauhof is known for its innovative exhibitions that explore the intersection of literature and spatial presentation, making both classical and contemporary works accessible and engaging.

The exhibition delves into the extensive correspondence of Carl Seelig (1894–1962), a pivotal yet often overlooked figure in Swiss literary history. Through over 10,000 preserved letters, Seelig’s role as a mentor, editor, and advocate for exiled authors during the Second World War is illuminated. The exhibition focuses on his relationships with Nobel laureate Hermann Hesse, poet Erika Burkart, and writer Robert Walser, showcasing Seelig’s profound impact on their lives and works.

Our design approach aimed to reflect the depth and nuance of these literary connections, creating an immersive experience that honours Seelig’s legacy and the enduring power of written correspondence.
